Renowned Canadian pastor and author Henry Blackaby, celebrated for his influential Bible study Experiencing God, has passed away at the age of 88, leaving behind a profound spiritual legacy that touched millions worldwide.
Blackaby, the founder and president emeritus of Blackaby Ministries International (BMI), transitioned to be with the Lord on Saturday, as confirmed by his son Richard in a heartfelt social media post. The news was later verified by BMI, which announced plans for a funeral service at First Baptist Church of Jonesboro, Georgia, on 25th February.
Throughout his remarkable journey, Blackaby revitalized Faith Baptist Church in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and served as a pastor in both the United States and Canada. However, it was his seminal work, Experiencing God, first published in 1990 by Lifeway, that cemented his legacy. The book, touching on themes of faith, devotion, and divine connection, has sold approximately 8 million copies across various editions, impacting countless lives with its transformative message.
“Lifeway sends the Blackaby family our sincere condolences as they remember the life and ministry of this godly man,” expressed Lifeway President and CEO Ben Mandrell.
Franklin Graham, head of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, paid tribute to Blackaby’s influence, describing him as “a great Bible teacher and author” whose teachings will continue to inspire generations.
Reflecting on his father’s legacy, Mel Blackaby, senior pastor at FBC Jonesboro, highlighted his exemplary life and the profound testimonies of lives changed by his writings.
Blackaby’s reach extended globally, with translations of Experiencing God available in over 60 languages and radio programs spreading his message far and wide.
Despite facing health challenges, including a heart attack in 2013, Blackaby remained steadfast in his commitment to sharing God’s truth, inspiring believers across generations. His memory lives on through his family, his ministry, and the enduring impact of his teachings, which continue to shape lives around the world.
