Christian School Excluded by State for Opting Out of Game with Transgender Athlete

Mid Vermont Christian School was banned from state-sponsored athletic competitions after forfeiting a game in the girls’ basketball tournament rather than playing against a team with a transgender player. The Vermont Principals’ Association made the decision citing violation of anti-discrimination policies.

In response, the school filed a lawsuit alleging religious discrimination, claiming the association was violating its own fairness policy.

The controversy highlights the ongoing debate around participation of transgender athletes in sports.
